Seekings
If you want to increase your Arete, you will need to embark on a seeking. This seeking is devised based on your magic, tradition, paradigm, and more. A seeking can be started purposefully, on accident, through a mentor, a spirit or other mage, so many options.
An example through a journey, Rainier wishes to increase his arete. In roleplay terms, he is trying to get closer to the divine to understand what the fuck it wants with him! He has taken oaths, lived as close as possible to his beliefs and the expectations of the One. He follows the dictates of his questing avatar which is represented by the angels (Michael mainly, sometimes Gabriel). He has fought demons, destroyed vampires, weeded out corruption among the holy orders, and yet seems never to get closer. It pains him deeper than he admits. But the problem is in himself. He has to fully welcome the holy spirit of the one to move him, far too controlling.
He prays with the One, receiving a vision through a dream. A terrible proclamation much like revelation. Instead of fighting the vision to move within it, he lets it come to him. When he wakes, he mulls on the vision and begins his journey to help the people and mages of New York. He determines where the evils will break through using prayer and magic, meets with others to understand their concerns and plights, and begins to not only battle but heal all he meets. He has committed unspeakable deaths and crimes in the name of the One. Time to pay it all back three-fold.
When his journey to save NYC completes, he may gain enlightenment and embrace the lessons provided. In the end, he will ascend to master.
